June 5th 2026 saw the opening of the exhibition 'Clogs, Tulips and Video Games. Game Design from the Netherlands' at the Erasmus House, in Jakarta, Indonesia. The exhibition highlights twelve outstanding game titles from the Netherlands, that are all playable, and are contextualized by text and imagery on the walls.
For this project, I acted as one of the curators, selecting the games and most of the imagery and videos. Besides this, I wrote the exhibition copy, from the wall texts to marketing materials.
This project was all kinds of special, as the assignment came mere months before opening, and had to be concepted and readied remotely, before being assembled by Erasmus House in Jakarta. This meant coming up with a 'plug and play' approach that allowed us to work on the exhibit digitally (securing game builds and designing decals in Indesign), while simultaneously prepping the Jakarta team for the assembly.
The assignment for this project came from Erasmus House, a remarkable space for culture and reflection that is part of the Dutch embassy in Jakarta, and the Dutch Games Association, who involved me in the curation.
Seeing what challenges we faced, I added the Storyworld Museum to the mix of partners, whose expertise in hosting game exhibitions (not to mention the amount of digital assets at their disposal) helped us to quickly iron out the concept and execution of this exhibit.
More information about the exhibition can be found on the Erasmus House website. 'Clogs, Tulips and Video Games. Game Design from the Netherlands' runs through August 29th 2026, and can be visited for free during office hours.
